I would like to recover the data from the floppies. Are there people for hire who could recover the data for me? We have not yet got hold of a PC version of Final Writer that we can use. However, my colleague has managed to install a Postscript driver, print to postscript, convert to PDF and edit the PDF inside Word 2003. I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know how effective a version this now is.

BTW OpenOffice doesn't claim to handle Final Writer formats...Chris Rusbridgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07426316331703324594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1303975371294158246.post-87293224712549780162009-04-21T00:01:00.000+01:002009-04-21T00:01:00.000+01:00Hi again,

Then postscript files can be converted to pdf.

Also there is a patch for final writer on the amiga that might be useful (might allow you to use the save-as function perhaps?):
http://aminet.net/package/biz/patch/fw9730r1

Im thinking that getting the PC version of final writer would be the best option at this stage though if you are actually wanting to get the files into an accessible format. Also I wonder if OpenOffice.org opens the final writer files?

This is an interesting challenge. It is of particular interest to me as I am a digital archivist but I also used to own an amiga and have long been interested in the emulators for them.

Cheers,

Euan Cochraneeuanchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15144686780661663450noreply@blogger.com
